Hestan is the newer entrant in premium residential grilling — born from the same engineering team that built Viking, with restaurant-grade construction and a younger brand identity. Hestan grills (AGBR, GMBR series) compete directly with Lynx, DCS, and Fire Magic on quality, with some unique features and the kind of build tolerance that separates premium from mid-tier.

This guide covers the cleaning routine specific to Hestan grills.

What’s distinctive about Hestan

Marquise-elite stainless construction: 304-grade stainless throughout, with welded joinery rather than fasteners. Heavier-gauge than typical residential grills.

Trellis cooking grates: distinctive Hestan grate pattern. Stainless rods in a grid that holds heat exceptionally well.

ProPath ignition: Hestan’s hot-surface ignition system. Reliable, long-lasting.

Sear burner option: many Hestan models include a ceramic infrared sear burner alongside standard tube burners.

Available in 12 colors: more design flexibility than competitors. Mostly cosmetic for cleaning purposes; the underlying construction is the same.

After-cook routine (5 minutes)

  1. Brush the cooking grates while warm with a brass-bristle brush
  2. Wipe interior visible surfaces with a damp cloth (Hestan stainless tolerates this)
  3. Empty the grease tray if more than a third full
  4. Close the lid

Standard premium grill discipline.

Monthly routine (30-45 minutes)

With cooker cool:

Step 1: Disassemble accessible components. Cooking grates (Trellis design lifts out cleanly), heat shields, drip tray.

Step 2: Soak removables. Hot water with degreaser. Hestan grates are heavy stainless; tolerate aggressive cleaning. Scrub with brass brush, rinse, dry thoroughly.

Step 3: Vacuum the firebox interior. Hestan fireboxes have superior drainage but corners still accumulate.

Step 4: Wipe interior surfaces with damp soapy cloth. The 304 stainless tolerates this without staining. Hestan’s welded joinery means fewer crevices to deal with than fastener-based grills.

Step 5: Polish exterior stainless or colored finish. For stainless: standard polish with the grain. For colored finishes (red, blue, green, etc.): Hestan-specific cleaner recommended; gentle approach to preserve the color coating.

Step 6: Check sear burner if equipped. Don’t chemical-clean the ceramic emitter. Hot-cycle by running the sear burner at maximum for 10 minutes empty.

Step 7: Empty grease tray; clean tray housing.

Twice-a-year deep clean (90+ minutes)

In addition to monthly:

  • Pull burners (when accessible)
  • Inspect and clean venturi tubes
  • Verify ProPath ignition function (Hestan ignition systems are well-regarded; failure is rare)
  • Check propane line connections (or natural gas line on built-ins)
  • Inspect cabinet door alignment and hinges (built-ins)
  • Polish all stainless to spec
  • Verify thermometer accuracy

Annual professional service

For Hestan grills, annual professional service is reasonable but not strictly required:

  • DIY annual maintenance: 90 minutes, straightforward
  • Professional service: $300-450 (Hestan-trained operators charge premium)
  • Recommended cadence: every 1-2 years

Most Hestan owners handle routine maintenance DIY and use professional service for deep inspections every couple years.

Hestan-specific issues

Trellis grate seasoning: the stainless rod pattern develops good seasoning over years; don’t strip it during cleaning.

Sear burner emitter durability: Hestan ProSear emitters are durable but can crack from impact or thermal shock. Inspect twice a year; replacement is $250-400.

Color finish chipping: Hestan colored cabinets can develop chips on edges with heavy use. Touch-up paint kits are available from Hestan.

Cabinet door alignment (built-ins): hinges last well; adjustment occasional.

Hestan vs. other premium brands

Comparable cookers:

Hestan vs. Lynx: very comparable. Hestan is the newer brand with slightly more design variety; Lynx has the longer track record. Both are top-tier. Personal preference and dealer availability often the tiebreaker.

Hestan vs. DCS (Fisher & Paykel): comparable build. DCS is more established, Hestan more aspirational in branding. Both age well.

Hestan vs. Wolf: Wolf has the longer warranty terms; Hestan has the design variety. Build quality is comparable. Choose Hestan for distinctive aesthetics, Wolf for longevity-focused planning.

Hestan vs. Twin Eagles: comparable premium tier. Different aesthetic vocabularies; same quality range.

Lifespan

A maintained Hestan typically lasts 25+ years. Hestan’s relative newness in the market means we don’t yet have 30+ year track records, but the engineering foundation (Viking heritage) suggests they’ll match or exceed older premium brands’ longevity.

Frequently asked questions

Are Hestan grills worth the premium over Lynx?

Comparable cookers at comparable prices, with somewhat different aesthetics. Hestan wins on design variety (12 color options); Lynx has the longer track record. For most owners, the choice comes down to which dealer is local and which aesthetic fits the property. Quality is essentially equivalent.

Can I use the same cleaning products as on my old Weber?

Mostly yes, with care for colored finishes. The 304 stainless tolerates similar chemistry; the cooking grates handle the same brushes. For colored Hestan cabinets specifically, use Hestan's recommended cleaner to preserve the finish.

How often does the ProSear emitter need replacement?

Rare for Hestan emitters — well-engineered, last 10-15+ years typically. Replacement is $250-400 if needed; service is straightforward.

Do colored Hestan cabinets fade over time?

Slowly, with sun exposure. The colored coatings are durable but eventually show UV fading after 5+ years of direct sun. Covered storage helps; touch-up paint can refresh edges or chips.

Does Hestan offer good warranty support?

Yes — Hestan warranties are competitive with other premium brands (lifetime on most major components for original owners). Their dealer network is smaller than Lynx or Weber, so claims processing can take slightly longer in some markets.
